The January 23rd Special Election is next week. Lane County election officials say as of today they’ve received 69,941 ballots.
That’s a 28 percent return from all of Lane County’s registered voters, says Cheryl Betschart, county clerk and elections manager.
“The last time we had a special statewide election was January of 2010," she recalls. "If we look at that like election, our percentage of ballots coming back at this time, compared to that election compared to this point in time, we’re seeing a lower return right now.”
Voters will decide the fate of Measure 101. It asks voters to approve up to $320 million in taxes on hospitals and some health insurers to cover Oregon’s share of Medicaid.
Betschart says January 17th was the recommended deadline for mailed ballots. Now voters should drop their ballot off at the Elections Office or in any official drop box.
