DeFazio Responds To Climate Activists

A group of climate activists got results when they went to Oregon U.S. Representative Peter DeFazio’s Eugene office  Tuesday.

The activists want DeFazio to join newly elected Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in pushing for a Green New Deal aimed at de-carbonizing the U.S. economy in 10 years.
UO Student Dylan Plummer is with Climate Justice League. He says as a young person he sees older white men in government ignoring the dangers of climate change.
“And they’re going to die rich and happy and they’re not going to experience the impacts of a changing climate and of these wildfires and of our droughts and of our rivers drying up. And so I feel a strong sense of urgency. I feel scared about tomorrow, let alone 10 years from now. I feel scared to bring children into this world.”
In response, the democrat’s staff gave activists a letter from DeFazio saying he will “support any committee that would implement bold new ideas to address the threat of climate change head-on.”
