Community Organizer Declares Democratic Candidacy For 4th District

Courtesy of Doyle Canning

A political newcomer will be challenging longtime incumbent Peter DeFazio in the Democratic primary in May. Doyle Canning of Eugene launched her campaign for the 4th District Seat on the House of Representatives on Saturday.

Doyle is an attorney and community organizer. She says she has been working for 20 years on issues including the environment, racial justice, immigrant rights and affordable housing. Doyle says she’s really running for her children.

“2020 has to be a turning point for our country and for this community. And we need to fight for big, structural changes and that’s why I’m running for Congress.”

Doyle says she won’t take any corporate money.  She’s not the only Democrat filing to run for Oregon’s 4th District seat. Cassidy Clausen of Springfield has also filed. DeFazio has served in Congress since 1987.
