Lucy Vinis is headed to a second term as Mayor of the City of Eugene.
No sooner had the polls closed Tuesday night, when victory was announced for the incumbent candidate. With more than two-thirds of the primary vote, Vinis readily defeated six challengers on the ballot.
Just minutes after winning re-election, Vinis shared her plans for a second term, which is essentially a continuation of her first term: tackling homelessness, fighting climate change, and spurring economic development. Vinis added recovering from the pandemic is a new priority.
“Economic recovery depends on public investment," said Vinis. "We put in public investment and that’s how we helped spur those private investments and those opportunities for jobs.
"So in my mind, it is all of a piece: the COVID doesn’t overwhelm, it simply creates an emphasis, and a sense of urgency around those other priorities.”
The fall election for competitive races will be held November 3rd.
