Former Douglas County Commissioner Christine Goodwin was appointed Thursday to serve the remainder of state representative Gary Leif’s term, who died of cancer last month.
Goodwin will represent House District 2, which stretches along I-5 from Roseburg to just north of Grants Pass. She told the Roseburg News-Review that she does not plan to seek a full term in office in next year’s election.
Even so, Goodwin's time in office will include a potential votes on new legislative and congressional maps as part of the once-a-decade redistricting process. She'll also serve in Salem for the five-week "short" session that takes place in even-numbered years.
