Lane County Commissioner Jay Bozievich announced Tuesday that he will not run again for re-election. He’s represented West Lane County - District One- for nearly three full four-year terms, and he told KLCC he’s ready to retire.

“First, I felt like I’ve accomplished a lot,” Bozievich said. “Second, I’m turning 65 and I’m at a point in my life where I can retire. And I think it’s time for somebody new to come in with fresh energy.”

Bozievich said he’s proud of helping to stabilize the county financially. Shortly after he came into office it was near bankruptcy and now Lane County has the highest bond rating its ever had.

Bozievich said he’ll finish out his term which runs until January 3, 2023.

He previously served a four-year term on the Lane Community College Board of Education. He practiced civil engineering for 29 years.

So far, one person has filed to run for the District One seat on the Lane County Board of Commissioners, Dawn Lesley.
