As Eugene-Springfield Shops Close During Pandemic, Some Give Back

Many Eugene-Springfield restaurants and shops are scaling back hours, staff, and access, while the coronavirus pandemic continues. And as KLCC’s Brian Bull reports, some have simply closed.

Among those that’ve turned off the lights and locked the doors are The Davis, the Oregon Electric Station, and Euphoria Chocolate Company.  Co-owner Bonnie Glass says it was a hard decision that affects 25 workers, but she hopes to re-open in the near future.

“As much as we love chocolate and we think it’s a necessity, in these moments it was more important to put safety before having our doors open and doing business.”

Nurses Michelle Van de Hey and Mary Anne Gordon, receiving part of 1300 truffles donated to health care workers by Euphoria Chocolate Company this week. Katie Urhausen of Deployed Logix help coordinated the delivery.

Glass says Euphoria Chocolate was able to give a little cheer to local healthcare workers upon shuttering: 1,300 chocolate truffles that would’ve otherwise stayed in storage.

“They are literally putting their lives on the line for our community, so let’s do something to make that day for them  just a little bit brighter.”

Glass says small businesses are the backbone of Eugene, and hopes people continue to support local shops during the pandemic.

For now, Glass says until the gathering restrictions are lifted, customers can order chocolates from Euphoria Chocolate Company's website
