EWEB Closes Access To College Hill Reservoir For 4th of July

Rachael McDonald

The College Hill Reservoir in Eugene will be closed for the Fourth of July holiday weekend and fireworks are prohibited on the property grounds.

Eugene Water & Electric Board closes the water storage facility each year to protect its roof. EWEB’s Joe Harwood said they started restricting public access on 4th of July several years ago.

“And the reason we had to do that is, unfortunately, there were people that were setting off fireworks, which can damage the roof and the rubberized coating on that roof and potentially impact drinking water quality,” Harwood told KLCC

This year, the City of Eugene has banned the use of fireworks in South Eugene, which includes College Hill. The gates to the reservoir will be closed through Tuesday, July 6.
