Highway 138 Expected To Remain Closed for At Least A Week

ODOT

The North Umpqua Highway, 138, is expected to remain closed between Glide and highway 97 for at least a week due to hazardous conditions due to local wildfires.

The Archie Creek Fire has grown to more than 115-thousand acres over the past few days. It’s mostly to the north of the north Umpqua River. A second fire is burning near Diamond Lake.

ODOT says its developing plans to address hazards on the highway including trees, rocks and debris in the roadway. Some areas are inaccessible. More than one hundred trees are in danger of collapsing on the roadway and there’s a risk of landslides in the coming fall and winter.

Emergency responders and evacuees have priority during this emergency. Other motorists are advised to avoid the area. Do not put yourself at risk by using forest roads to get around fire closures. You can get updates on road conditions at tripcheck.com.
