KLCC

It's been quite the year, to say the least, but we've managed to make it this far and while this holiday season will no doubt be missing so many things perhaps KLCC can offer some slight comfort with a nice variety of holiday programs that will move, delight, and inspire you. We've got longstanding Public Radio holiday traditions on deck, including our special home-grown ones, and plenty of brand new suprises for this season. So even if your holiday plans are a bit dialed back this year try tuning your dial to KLCC and share the season with your friends and neighbors by listening together on the airwaves. Happy Holidays!

11:00am IDEAS - “Christmas Philosophy 101”

Heat the cocoa, stoke the fire, and settle in for some good ol' fashioned philosophy! Christmas is a minefield of deep philosophical quandaries, like — is it ethically correct to lie to children? Who does a gift really benefit: the giver, or receiver? How do we really know if Santa exists, or doesn't? Christmastime is full of moments that reveal deep questions, so join IDEAS on a dramatic journey through the philosophy of Christmas.

3:00PM - Folk Alley

This week on Folk Alley, it's our annual Christmas show! Join Elena See for music from Raul Malo and The Mavericks, legends Leon Redbone and Dr. John, and Dan Hicks & the Hot Licks; new songs for the season from Calexico feat. Gaby Moreno, Dolly Parton, and Andrew Bird; more favorites by Laurie Lewis, John Hartford, Keb' Mo', The Sweetback Sisters, Kacey Musgraves, The Kruger Brothers, and Mary Gauthier; plus we celebrate the great Jorma Kaukonen on his milestone birthday; and more!

Each year he treats Sound Opinions listeners to a much-anticipated hour of music. This year’s compilation is called “Santa vs. El Diablo” and is a 'best of' from the last 30 years of Andy's collections.

Thursday, December 24

7:00PM IDEAS - “Christmas Philosophy 101”

Heat the cocoa, stoke the fire, and settle in for some good ol' fashioned philosophy! Christmas is a minefield of deep philosophical quandaries, like — is it ethically correct to lie to children? Who does a gift really benefit: the giver, or receiver? How do we really know if Santa exists, or doesn't? Christmastime is full of moments that reveal deep questions, so join IDEAS on a dramatic journey through the philosophy of Christmas.

8:00PM and 11:00PM Thursday Night Jazz "Merry Beatles, A Cool Yule With The Fab Four"

Everybody loves the Beatles, or mostly everybody. The songs they have written have become part of the canon of standards and their songs have been covered by many great jazz musicians. Frank Sinatra called "Something" one of the greatest love songs ever written. Host David Gizara started doing the show as a way to celebrate the Winter Solstice in a way that includes all cultures and religions during the holiday season, thus "Merry Beatles, A Cool Yule With The Fab Four.” Whether you’re into jazz or not there’s lots to love during this longstanding KLCC holiday tradition!
