The No. 6 Ducks won their first game of the 2021 Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament, beating No. 11 South Dakota, 67-47, Monday in San Antonio.
The Ducks (14-8) held the Coyotes (19-6) to only 1 point in the second quarter and went into the half with a 34-9 lead. South Dakota outscored Oregon in the second half, 38-33, but the early lead by the Ducks easily kept them on top.
While Oregon had 23 turnovers, the Ducks were 60% in field-goals and made 50% of their 3-point attempts. Erin Boley scored 22 points, Nyara Sabally added 17, and Sedona Prince had 12 in the Ducks’ win. South Dakota star Hannah Sjerven scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds.
The Ducks head to a second round match-up against No. 3 Georgia Wednesday at noon. This will be Oregon’s eighth appearance in the Round of 32. The 2019 Ducks made it to the Final Four for the first time in program history.
