The New Year Will Bring Changes At Sacred Heart University District in Eugene

Peacehealth

In the New Year, Peacehealth will begin a revitalization project at its Sacred Heart University District location in Eugene.

Peacehealth plans to remove four buildings that are no longer in use, including the Johnson Unit and the remaining wing of the former Sacred Heart General Hospital.

Alicia Beymer [Beem-er], Chief Administrative officer for Sacred Heart University District and Cottage Grove, told KLCC they’ve been planning this project for years.

“To clear away outdated, unused buildings and make the hospital lobby, the lobby in our main hospital a brighter, more spacious environment. And, also that will open up and brighten our campus here as well.”

Beymer said this will be the biggest change to the University District since the hospital was expanded in the early 1980s. The 15-month project begins in April 2021. University District will continue to serve patients and operate normally during construction. Beymer expressed appreciation for hospital staff in what has been a challenging year for caregivers.

“I think the best way to describe this year is that it has brought out the hero within each one of us,” Beymer said.” “I see that every day that I round in the medical centers. The dedication and commitment that each of our caregivers and providers have to ensuring the safety of our patients.”
