Starting this week [Tuesday 2/5] drivers on highway 126 between Eugene and Florence should expect delays near Walton. Crews are adding a west-bound passing lane.
Travelers should expect 20 minute delays along 126 just west of Walton for the next few months. Oregon Department of Transportation is adding a west-bound passing lane between Walker Creek and Chickahominy Creek. ODOT’s Angela Beers-Seydel says the stretch of road has seen a high number of traffic fatalities.
“So they said, okay, what can we do? And one of the things they found was happening was people were making some unsafe decisions when passing. And so, adding a passing lane of about a mile, we hope will help alleviate some of that.”
The 5 million dollar project is funded with safety dollars. Beers-Seydel recommends travelers check TRIPCHECK for current construction conditions on highway 126 for the next couple of months.
Beers-Seydel says another project is planned for 2021 to widen shoulders, add guardrails and rumble strips on the eastside portion of Cougar Pass near Walton.
