Wildfire Closures

Due to wildfires and poor air quality from smoke in the KLCC listening area, there have been many closures. Here is a compiled list of what we know so far. We will update this post regularly as we get new information.

Transportation

Interstate 5: Southbound lanes OPEN between Exits 30 to 35 (Medford/Central Point). Northbound lanes are still being detoured to nearby Oregon 99. Expect delays northbound while fire crews mop-up Bear Creek Greenway area fire.

Interstate 5:CLOSED between exits 14 (south Ashland) and 35 (Central Point) due to wildfire. The Jackson County Expo grounds at I-5 Exit 33 Central Point is open as a shelter.

Interstate 5: CLOSED to northbound traffic at the state border (Exit 1) to Phoenix (Exit 24) due to the Ashland area fire. Traffic is being turned around back into California.

ODOT/OSP needs drivers/operators of abandoned semi trucks/vehicles left on I-5 travel lanes to call dispatch to let them know your contact information for reopening the interstate. Operators should call ODOT Dispatch: 541-858-3103 or OSP Dispatch: 541-664-4600 to give contact information for dispatch to call back when the re-opening is close. Otherwise tows will be called, which will aggravate the closure.

OR 18:CLOSED from U.S. 101 to six miles east of Otis.

US 20/Santiam Highway:OPEN between Sweet Home and Santiam Junction, mileposts 33 to 72. There are numerous lane closures along the route as crews continue powerline work and wildfire response. Travel with extreme caution. Watch for flaggers and crews throughout the area. Be prepared for quickly changing hazardous conditions.

OR 22: Santiam Highway CLOSED from Milepost 82-13.

Highway 34:CLOSED five miles East of Alsea, between Milepost 45 and 48. There is a wildfire in the area and numerous trees are on the roadway.

OR 38:CLOSED at Milepost 58. A crash occurred. Use caution.

OR 58/Willamette Highway: One lane OPEN at Milepost 58 near Waldo Lake. An earlier crash blocked the road. Travel with caution and watch for flaggers and responders in the area. Be prepared for changing road conditions and closures due to wildfires. 

OR 62: CLOSED between OR 234 north through Shady Cove to Tiller-Trail junction. Avoid the area. 

Highway 99:CLOSED at Milepost 104, between Monroe and Junction City by a downed power line and fire.

OR 99/Rogue Valley Highway:CLOSED between Medford (Garfield St.) and Ashland (South Valley View Dr.). This includes Talent and Phoenix. Please respect the closure areas. Do not drive through or around closure points. This is a hazard to public/first responder safety and clogs the transportation routes.

Highway 101:CLOSED northbound from Gleneden Beach to the junction of HWY 101 and HWY 18. Use alternate route.

US 101:CLOSED to through traffic from OR 229 Siletz Highway through Lincoln City to the intersection with OR 18, milepost 120 to 104. The road is being used for evacuation. Please avoid the area and leave the road open for evacuation and wildfire response crews.

OPEN through Lincoln City. Fire crews north of Lincoln City between Neotsu and the OR 18 junction.

Milepost 221 OPEN. Previously closed near Tugman State Park due to a wildfire.

Highway 126/Mckenzie Highway:CLOSED between Springfield and Belknap springs, Mileposts 10 to 55. In Springfield, only local traffic is allowed past 69th Street. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and leave the road open for responders and evacuation.

LTD Route EmX:STOP CLOSED at 10th and High Street Outbound until further notice due to tree removal. Riders should plan extra time to travel to Eugene Station or 11th and Hilyard.

LTD Route 91: Service to McKenzie Bridge SUSPENDED until further notice.

OR 138-East/North Umpqua Highway:CLOSED from Glide east to US 97 until at least Friday, Sept. 18.

US 199/Redwood Highway: CLOSED from Cave Junction to the California border. It is also CLOSED in California.

OR 224:CLOSED from OR 211 to Ripplebrook, Milepost 18 to 50. Use alternate route.

OR 242: CLOSED from Milepost 85-55,west of Sisters.

OR 422:CLOSED Intersection with Crater Lake Highway OR 62 at Milepost 0 to 5. Fire in the area. Use alternate route.

Travelers should delay trips or take alternate routes. Travel with extreme caution and be ready for conditions to change quickly. Check your route and road conditions on tripcheck.com or call 5-1-1. 

Grants Pass: 6th Street CLOSED due to downed power lines between Morgan Lane and Hillcrest Drive. G Street CLOSED due to downed power lines between Lincoln Road and Western Avenue. Please avoid the areas. 

Schools

Bethel School District: Start of school is DELAYED until Monday, September 21st for all students.

Blachly Sch. Dist.: Triangle Lake Charter School moves start date to 9/21.

Elkton Sch. Dist.: K-3 in-person instruction CANCELED Friday, Sept. 11. Instruction will resume on Monday, Sept. 14. Grades 4-12 CDL will OPEN Thursday (9/10). Students should resume their normal CDL schedule. Small group instruction that was scheduled is CANCELED for through Friday, Sept. 11.

Eugene 4J:Start of school is DELAYED until Monday, September 21st for all students. Student technology will be distributed by schools next week. School food service will begin next week, with free grab-and-go meals available for 4J students and all youth, unless air quality prevents outdoor activity

Eugene Christian School:CLOSED K-3rd students begin 9/14. 4th-8th will open on 9/14 with 2hrs in person learning.

Glide Sch. Dist.: CANCELED through Friday, Sept.18.

LCC Campuses: All locations CLOSED through Friday, Sept. 11. Limited remote services will be available. Employees should follow Sept. 9 guidance regarding work. Students should contact instructors directly with questions regarding classes. 

Oregon State University: Operations in western Oregon remain CLOSED Friday, Sept. 11 due to wildfire smoke.

Pleasant Hill Sch. Dist.:CLOSED Friday, Sept. 11 due to power outage. This includes online and on-site learning.

Springfield Public Schools: Start of school is DELAYED until September 21st for all students.

Sutherlin Sch. Dist.:CLOSED Thursday, Sept. 10 for online and on-site learning.

Western Oregon University: Campus CLOSED until 7 am Monday, September, 14 due to poor air quality.

Willamette Leadership Acad.:CLOSED until Monday, Sept. 14th due to fire conditions. 

Yoncalla Sch. Dist.: K-3 in person learning CANCELED. 4-12 distance learning will continue online.

Zion Lutheran School/Early Learning Center: All campuses CLOSED through Thursday, Sept. 10, including ELC and K-2.K-2 in-person instruction will begin Monday, September 14th. Distance Learning will continue for grades 3-8.

Healthcare

Eugene VA: Laboratory CLOSED until further notice.

PeaceHealth Medical Group:most Eugene, Springfield and Cottage Grove clinics CLOSED beginning noon Thursday, Sept. 10. This includes Urgent Care at Gateway and West Eugene, Pediatrics at RiverBend Pavilion and University District, New Patient Coordinator at University District and Pediatric Cardiology and Surgery at RiverBend Pavilion.

Women's Services and all Behavioral Health Services clinics at University District will close at 3 today. Behavioral Health will keep all appointments but conduct them via teleconference through Friday. All affected patients will be notified.

Roseburg VA:rescheduling or converting to telephone all non-emergent face-to-face appointments at both its Eugene facilities. Outpatient face-to-face appointments at the Roseburg campus and the outpatient clinics in North Bend and Brookings will be evaluated as local and regional conditions develop.

Community

Benton County Offices: Closed to the public through Friday, Sept. 11.

Corvallis-Albany Farmers’ Market: CLOSED for Saturday, Sept. 12.

Eugene Family YMCA: CLOSED to the public Friday, Sept. 11. OPEN for showers for those affected by the wildfires 6-1:30 pm and 3:30-8 pm.

Eugene Saturday Market: CANCELED Saturday, Sept. 12 due to poor air quality. 

Humane Society of Cottage Grove: Dog walk POSTPONED to Saturday, Oct. 3.

Lane Co. Circuit Court: CLOSED Friday, September 11 due to air quality. 

Lane County Farmers Market: CANCELED Saturday, Sept. 12 due to poor air quality.  

Oregon Coast Aquarium:CLOSED Friday, September 11. The animals are fine. We are monitoring the air quality and conditions closely. We will be refunding those who purchased tickets for today. Please call (541) 283-1129.

Oregon Lottery: Office in Salem is CLOSED Friday, Sept. 11 

Senior Meals Program: Service SUSPENDED at both Café 60 meals to go and Meals on Wheels routes on Friday, September 11 at Willamalane Adult Activity Center in Springfield. Program participants are encouraged to safely travel to another local meal site for hot meal service, if possible. 

Springfield City Club: Event with Black Unity RESCHEDULED for Thursday, Sept. 24.

Summer Midway Movie Series: RESCHEDULED. Goonies now on Friday, September, 18 at 8:30 pm. Jumanji: The Next Level now on Saturday, September, 19 at 8:30 pm. Current ticket holders will be emailed updated tickets.

Willamalane: All facilities, parks, and trails CLOSED until further notice. This includes temporary day-use smoke respite shelters at Bob Keefer Center and Willamalane Adult Activity Center will also close.

Bob Keefer Center parking lot is still allowing RV parking. No RV dumping is allowed and we do not have power or water hook-ups available. There are limited spaces available and we ask that you not block flow of traffic, entrances, or exits. 

Parks

Buford Recreation Area/Mt.Pisgah: CLOSED Tuesday, Sept. 8 to all visitors. This includes the Arboretum and all trails due to significant risk of wildfire in the park. No visitors will be allowed entry and entrances will remain barricaded until the closure is lifted.

Lane County Parks asks residents to respect the closure of the park for their own safety. The park will remain closed until conditions improve.

Corvallis Parks and Recreation Natural Areas: CLOSED until further notice due to continued extreme fire danger and limited firefighting resources. This includes the following Natural Areas - Bald Hill, Brandis, Chip Ross, Forest Dell, Herbert Farm, Marys River, Noyes, Orleans, Owens Farm, Timber Hill and Witham Hill. 

Please respect these closures and help keep our community safe.

Elliott State Forest:CLOSED to the public due to extreme fire danger until further notice.

Ridgeline Park System: CLOSED until further notice. Hendricks Park is considered part of the Ridgeline Park System so it will be closed as well.

Santiam State Forest:CLOSED until further notice.

Siuslaw National Forest: CLOSED beginning Thursday, Sept. 10 until further notice at the following areas - all National Forest forested, coastal, and sand areas and includes the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Sand Lake, developed campgrounds, dispersed camping, day use areas, wilderness areas, and all forest roads and trails.

Skinner Butte Summit: CLOSED until further notice.

South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve:CLOSED to the public due to extreme fire danger until further notice.

Umpqua National Forest: Diamond Lake and North Umpqua Ranger Districts CLOSED due to fires.

Willamette National Forest: All recreation offerings CLOSED including campgrounds, day use areas, trails, boat ramps and more. Forest Service roads are CLOSED to the public across the Willamette National Forest unless you are vacating the Forest.

BLM campgrounds in northwestern Oregon:all CLOSED to the public. Dispersed camping is prohibited. This temporary closure covers west of the Cascade Range and north from Cottage Grove to the Columbia River, and includes popular spots, such as Fishermen’s Bend campground, Wildwood recreation site, Alsea Falls recreation site, Shotgun Creek day use area, and the Row River Trail.

The Coos Bay District: developed recreation sites east of Highway 101CLOSED, with the exception of the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area. Impacted areas will be closed for seven days beginning September 9. 

In southwestern and central Oregon, campfires and open flames are prohibited on BLM-administered lands across the Coos Bay, Medford, and Prineville Districts. Under these restrictions, campfires or any other type of open fire, including the use of charcoal briquettes, is prohibited on BLM-administered lands. Visitors can use portable cooking stoves that use liquefied or bottled fuels.

Northwest Oregon State-managed Forests: all CLOSED to public use. The Tillamook, Clatsop and Santiam state forests are closed to all public entry and use effective immediately, as are scattered state forestlands in Polk, Lincoln and Benton counties. Anyone currently in these areas needs to leave right away.

This is necessary due to the current extreme fire conditions that are endangering life, forest resources, and property as well as very limited fire and emergency response resources.

US Army Corps-managed recreation areas:CLOSED at Detroit, Green Peter, Foster, Cougar, Blue River, Lookout Point, Dexter, Hills Creek and Fall Creek dams.

Businesses 

Dutch Bros.: Eugene and Springfield locations CLOSED until further notice due to air quality.

GOODWILL Donations:CLOSED until further notice in the following cities. Brookings, Cottage Grove, Eugene, Florence,  Junction City, North Bend and Springfield. Retail stores are still OPEN.

Sky High Brew Pub: CLOSED until further notice due to air quality.
