Danny Glover, Kathleen Cleaver To Speak At U Of O

cas.uoregon.edu

Screen actor Danny Glover, most recently appearing in the film “Sorry to Bother You,” joins educator and former Black Panther Kathleen Cleaver in Eugene Monday. They’re at the University of Oregon for a conversation on the role of student protest in transforming education.

It’s part of UO President Michael Schill’s “Freedom of Expression” series, exploring free speech on college campuses. History professor Leslie Alexander says Glover was part of a group of students at San Francisco State University who created the first Black Studies program. She says student activism shaped today’s college curriculum:

Alexander: “The establishment of black studies programs also led to the development of other mainstays of American education right now like women’s studies, ethnic studies.”

The panel discussion takes place Monday at 7 p.m. In Straub Hall on the U of O campus. It’s open to the public and will be live streamed. Details are here. It will be live-streamed at https://media.uoregon.edu/channel/livestream.
