Track Town To Travel To Qatar

Karen Richards

In less than two years, Eugene will host an estimated 55,000 visitors for the IAAF Track and Field World Championships. In a few weeks, local officials will bring information about Track Town to Doha, Qatar, the site of this year’s World Champs.

Janis Ross heads the Sports Commission at Travel Lane County. She’s focused on accommodations, adding daily to her list of regional venues that can house a team, or serve as a practice area:

Ross: “These athletes do come in prior to the championship. They want to train in the time zone and the climate.”

Ross will travel to Doha to share her list and other details about the Eugene area with interested delegations, and take notes on the event. She says it’ll be broadcast live:

Ross: “It’s a chance for folks who live here to see just the enormity of what’s coming here in two years.”

The World Track and Field Championships begin September 27th and run through October 6th.
