NCAA Track and Field Fans React to the New Hayward Field

Karen Richards

Day One of the NCAA Track and Field Championships was the first chance for many out-of-town fans and coaches to experience the new Hayward Field. Here's an audio postcard.

Hill: “It’s been described as the cathedral of track and field. It’s fairly spectacular. I can’t wait to see it packed with fans and I want to see how it contains the energy of old Hayward Field. I miss the history but this is a nice, nice renovation.”

Tolbert: “It's incredible. I've seen the videos and pictures and stuff, but it's even better in person.”

Vresilovic: “I've never been here, and I am so impressed. I can't imagine another college stadium dedicated to track and field like this.”

Harrison: “This place is way over the top fantastic. Like this is a place I could sit at, like Oregonians do anyway, wait for the meet to come, I could sit here for hours. There's no bad seats in here. That's kind of nice. That is really nice, you know. No bad seats.”

That was Coach Jonathon Hill from Rice, Coach Kebba Tolbert from Harvard, Ed Vresilovic from Philadelphia, and Coach Ronnye Harrison from Oklahoma.
