Students Ride Free on LTD

Lane Transit District

As of this month Kindergarten to 12th grade students can now ride Lane Transit District busses for free.

Thanks to a grant from Oregon’s Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund, LTD is now offering students free rides.

Public Information Officer, Pat Walsh says riding the bus isn’t just about going places, it’s about opportunity.

“LTD wants to be able to provide opportunity for everyone. To be able to provide those students with that opportunity to begin to experience our community via transit. And to not have any barriers to be able to the places and the things that they want to do.”

The goal is to make riding as easy as possible so all students need to do is show their school ID or tell the bus driver where they attend. Parents and guardians can also ride free with their students through September.

Walsh knows how challenging it can be to get kids from one after-school activity to another.

“So I can tell you that being able to have your children get on the bus and know that they’re going to safely arrive at their game or practice and be able to get home, I think really expands the reach for a family.”

The two exceptions to this program are the Rhody and Diamond Express because they are not operated by LTD.
