Lane County History Museum To Document COVID-19's Local lmpact

For months, COVID-19 has changed just about every facet of life from how we work, go to school and shop. The Lane County History Museum hopes to document it all with the community's help.

Archivist and research librarian Allison Fischer-Olsen with LCHM said they’re asking the community to send the museum items, photos, or audio narratives that illustrate life under a pandemic. Gathered artifacts will be used in a COVID-19 Collection.

“We’re really hoping to get a variety of documentation of experiences of all kinds. We want all ages, we want all demographics from family perspectives, personal perspectives, from a business’ perspective [and] local non-profit organizations,” she said.

As an example, Fischer-Olsen said she asked a local brewer friend who pivoted to distributing hand sanitzer during the pandemic to donate a label from one of their bottles.

"This could be a physical piece of art, or you know maybe something you did with your family, your kids, while you were locked down, or it could be something like how your business shifted to accomadate for what was happening in the community," she said.

Fischer-Olsen added there is a vetting process. Contributors have to send in proposals since space is limited. She said the museum hopes to have enough material to put on an exhibit with the collection 10 or 15-years in the future.

More information on how to submit items for the COVID-19 Collection can be found here.
