Monday evening, community members gathered in downtown Springfield to support local police.
Beginning at 5:30, roughly 300 pro and anti police protesters met at the Springfield Public Library.
Tensions between protesters rose on multiple occasions, causing police officers to step in to deescalate several fights. At least one anti-police protester was arrested.
Before the night ended, anti-police protesters stood in a line across from Springfield Police on several occasions. One of which included chants for Stacy Kenny, who was killed by SPD in March 2019.
The protest concluded around 9:30. More protests in support of black lives matter and defunding the police are being planned for later this week in Eugene.
