Are you ready for a possible disaster, like an earthquake, ice storm, or fire? The City of Eugene is holding a series of preparedness fairs just for such scenarios. KLCC’s Brian Bull reports.
Dozens of locals check out informative tents and displays in the Park Blocks area of downtown Eugene. The Red Cross, EWEB, and American Family Insurance are just a few organizations giving out information on what essential items people should have on hand should they lose power or water for extended periods.
Patence Winningham is with the City of Eugene’s Emergency Management Program. She refers to last year’s major weather event in the region.
“The ice storm was a fine example of having to live without power and have to try to get out of your home in a safe manner to get supplies that you would need," Winningham tells KLCC. "And it really tested our first responder resources as well as our hospital capacities.
"So thinking about the most recent hazards and how they impact us as a community, will help you be more prepared in the face of a catastrophic disaster such as the Cascadia earthquake.”
Winningham says the next emergency preparedness fair will be held at the U of O campus next month. She encourages people to contact her office for further information.
