Flooding Shuts Down Springfield Library

Springfield Library

The normally quiet Springfield library is humming with a loud noise right now. It’s the sound of fans being used to dry out the soggy carpet.

City of Springfield spokesperson Amber Fossen explains why the carpet is wet.

“We had a ruptured water heater tank and so it had been pouring out into our library. The good news is that it had avoided the collection so our books and resources are intact and safe free from water damage. It just primarily soaked the floors.”

The Springfield Library is closed today and tomorrow as crews work to dry out the carpet. It’s expected to reopen on Wednesday. Updates will be posted to the library’s Facebook page.

Patrons can still use the book drop to return items they’ve checked out.
