People who’ve had to evacuate from wildfires in some Oregon communities can now ask first responders to check on their property.
The Marion County Sheriff’s office is offering the service to people with homes in Detroit and Idanha. People can call 503-798-6823 between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.
In Lincoln County, sheriff’s deputies will check on the properties of people who had to flee the Echo Mountain Complex fire. Residents can phone the county’s call center, 541-265-0621, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., or fill out the form at this website.
Lincoln County Sheriff Curtis Landers says he knows resident are eager for information, but some areas are still too dangerous for the public to return to.
“We want to get people home. We’re constantly asked about that," he said. "We want to open it up. Please be patient. Give the assessment team time to get done what they need to get done. We’re going to get you back in as soon as we can.”
Fire officials say at least 100 structures were destroyed in the Echo Mountain fire, which burned more than 2,400 acres east of Lincoln City. As of Monday afternoon, Oregon Highway 18 was still closed between milepost 0 and milepost 5 east of Lincoln City.
