This is the final week for families in the Eugene 4J district to make their choices about which school they’d like their children to attend.
The district allows for families to enter a lottery each year. District spokeswoman Kerry Delf says 4J is unusual in that it’s long offered school choice.
Delf: “This district has a history of innovation and alternative education, including language immersion programs and other alternative schools. Those schools are filled by request only. They don’t have any neighborhood boundary. They’re not the automatic school for any child but if you live in the Eugene School District or in some cases outside of the Eugene School District, you can request to attend that school.”
Delf says families can tour schools this week. The deadline to submit an application is Monday, February 29th. Some families are content with their neighborhood school and they don’t have to participate in school choice week. Delf reminds families it’s a lottery system, not first come first served.
