Umpqua Community College has named Dr. Debra Thatcher as its next president. The UCC Board of Trustees announced their decision Monday.

Thatcher is a research fellow at State University of New York, Cobleskill. She was acting president there for two years. Thatcher was one of 2 finalists from an original pool of 47.

UCC has had two interim presidents since Joseph Olsen retired last June. Rita Cavin saw the college through the mass shooting last October. Walter Nolte has been interim president for the last few months. The board is still in talks with Thatcher about when she’ll start. They’ve offered her a $173 thousand starting salary.
