The Eugene 4J school boardhas a vacancy since Evangelina Sundgrenz departed last month. A board member who recently lost re-election is seeking appointment to the seat.

Jim Torrey is among 7 candidates so far. He had served on the 4J board for 3 terms but lost to Martina Shabram in the May special election.  Eugene 4j Spokesperson Kerry Delf says they’ll be accepting applications through July 31st.

“Being a part of the school board and being engaged with the school board is a great way to be engaged with schools and be of service to our schools are our students.” Delf says, “This is a significant time commitment but it’s also one that’s very rewarding.”

The position is volunteer. Applicants must be residents of the 4j district and be registered voters. The School board will conduct interviews at its August 5th public meeting. It will make the appointment on the 8th.
