Oregon K-12 Schools: How To Stay Informed

Eugene 4J

Tuesday afternoon, Oregon Governor Kate Brown announced schools will remain closed until April 28th. School-related information changes daily and impacts many communities.

Oregon Education Department spokesperson Mark Siegel says checking their website is the best thing people can do. “We’re constantly updating it as new information comes in," says Siegel. "We want to be very open and accessible to the education community and the public.”

Siegel says there have been lots of questions about school meals, and people should contact their district to learn their options. The ODE's Covid 19 FAQ discusses online learning in a section titled “Impacts on Instruction.” It emphasizes if a district is considering going online, all students must have full access to learning. And, while some states like Texas have cancelled state assessments, the FAQ says because Oregon’s testing window runs through June 5th, a change in statewide testing is not yet warranted.
