PeaceHealth Notifies Patients It Will Drop Two Insurers

PeaceHealth

Lane County’s largest hospital network will cancel contracts with two insurers on January 1, 2020. PeaceHealth will no longer be “in-network” for patients with Health Net or Trillium plans.

The move could have significant impact on Lane County residents on the Oregon Health Plan who need to see a doctor at PeaceHealth’s hospitals or urgent care facilities.  Trillium serves people who receive coverage under OHP.

The pending pull-out worries PeaceHealth patients like Charles Jencks. At nearly 70 years old, the Springfield resident relies on Trillium and Medicare Advantage to cover his critical medical needs.

“I’m a cardio patient. I have cancer. I’m diabetic.”

Jencks recently got a letter from PeaceHealth. It listed five health plan providers that will be accepted after the first of the year.

“The letter doesn’t spell out that their dropping Trillium. But that’s kind of implied. And so I was really worried about that and called all over the place.”

Trillium’s website now notifies plan holders that PeaceHealth will soon be out of network. The changes are set to take place at the end of the year.

A statement from PeaceHealth:

"PeaceHealth is committed to serving all members of the community, including patients with Medicare. It’s important to know that nothing changes today. PeaceHealth remains in-network with Centene’s Health Net and Trillium Medicare Advantage plans throughout 2019."

Below is a message which now banners Trillium's website:

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR MEDICARE ADVANTAGE – PEACEHEALTH NOT IN-NETWORK AS OF 1/1/2020 TRILLIUM COMMUNITY HEALTH PLAN WILL NOT HAVE A CONTRACT WITH PEACEHEALTH FOR MEDICARE ADVANTAGE PLANS, INCLUDING DUAL SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAMS (DSNP), BEGINNING JANUARY 1, 2020. AS A RESULT, PEACEHEALTH IS NON-CONTRACTED AND WILL NOT BE IN-NETWORK WITH ANY TRILLIUM MEDICARE ADVANTAGE PLANS, INCLUDING DSNPs. NON-CONTRACTED PROVIDERS MAY NOT ACCEPT TRILLIUM.
