Lincoln County Experiences COVID-19 Outbreak

Lincoln County has the highest infection rate for coronavirus in the state right now, linked to an outbreak at a seafood processing plant. The current number of known positive cases is 184— up from 10 cases a week and a half ago.

Susan Trachsel is public information officer for Lincoln County Public Health. She says some of the cases are in children.

“We’ve had young children, teenage children, that have been positive because this virus doesn’t care how old you are. And it is spread easily among family members in the same home.”

Trachsel says the county is trying to get the information out to people to practice physical distancing, wear masks and stay home if they’re sick. The challenge is that many of the people affected do not speak English, so the county is reaching out with contact tracers who speak Spanish and other Latin American languages.

The Lincoln County Public Health hotline is: 541-265-0641

Note: This story has been updated with new numbers from OHA on Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, the county is handing out free K-95 masks in every city in Lincoln County.
