Florence Sees Positive COVID-19 Cases Rise

Lane County Public Health has confirmed an increase in COVID-19 positive cases in Florence, with 6 new tests reported as positive. This puts the total number of cases seen in the coastal city at *11.

Update: In an earlier report the overall case count in Florence was recorded at 12, however one positive case has since been reassigned to a different county (according to LCPH on 07/16/20.)

Health Officials say it is likely the cases are connected. They maintain there is not widespread community transmission at this point.

In late June, 187 people turned out for a rural testing event in Florence. 82 were tested in neighboring Mapleton. There were no positive results.

Officials say rural areas are behind the transmission curve and just beginning to experience the same trends as metro areas. Right now, that translates to coronavirus transmission due to travel, small social gatherings and household spread.
