The Biden Administration is supporting efforts around the country to increase equity in COVID-19 vaccine distribution. Lane County is one of four Centers in Oregon chosen to distribute and administer vaccine to underserved populations.
Community Health Centers of Lane Countyserves about 30,000 patients each year. An overwhelming majority (90%) are 200% below the poverty level. The Center also serves a high percentage of BIPOC communities (Black, Indigenous and People of Color.)
Medical Director, Dr. Rick Kincaid, said disparities are evident in the county’s data.
“Of the 36,000 patients fully vaccinated in Lane County, only 50 of the patients that we serve within our walls have been vaccinated.”
To remedy this, the state’s Health Resource Administration is sending vaccine directly to the Heath Centers. Kincaid said they have already begun administering 100 shots a day and his underserved patients are eager to be scheduled.
