With winter officially beginning soon, many residents still reeling from February’s big dump are wondering if this year will see a repeat. KLCC’s Brian Bull asked a regional meteorologist for their outlook.
Anyone who slogged through the last week of February 2019 can recall Eugene-Springfield being at a standstill, along with massive closures of schools and government buildings after 18 inches fell in two days. Downed trees caused power outages, and roads were inaccessible. Nearly $30 million of damage was sustained in Lane and Douglas Counties.
So what’s up for winter 2019-2020? Clinton Rockey of the National Weather Service says based on the most recent data…
“It’ll just wind up being a fairly typical winter for the area. No crazy snowstorm," he tells KLCC. "But again, it doesn’t take much to get a little extra oil in the StormTrack and give us something of a surprise come February, who knows?”
