Former LCC Board Member Remembered

Lane Community College

Lane Community College has lost a promoter.

Larry Romine, long time board member, writer and teacher, died October 25th, at the age of 83.

Larry Romine was a reporter for the Register-Guard back in 1960's, the heyday of the daily paper. He taught journalism at LCC and the University of Oregon.  Larry served two terms on the Lane Board of Education. His friend and colleague Pat Albright filled the board position from District 5 when Larry retired.

Albright:  "We were kind of both in the same mold. We started out as journalists then went into education. And, we both had a kind of curmudgeonly attitude about stuff."

Albright says Larry was one of those people who didn't try to bring a lot of attention to himself.

Albright: "When people tried to recognize him… I remember as he was getting ready to leave the board, he made a comment to me he says, 'Well, I hope they don't give me another one of those damn plaques.'"

Larry Romine is survived by his wife of 44 years, Molly, two daughters, and five grandchildren. A celebration of life is planned.

Tiffany joined the KLCC News team in 2007. She studied journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia and worked in a variety of media including television, technical writing, photography and daily print news before moving to the Pacific Northwest.
