Eugene Launches Online Building Permitting Process

City of Eugene

The City of Eugene is launching a new program, E-Build, that allows people to apply for building permits on-line. The goal is to make the process more convenient and save paper.

People planning commercial and residential building projects formerly had had to go to the city building permit office with piles of paperwork. With E-build, the process can be done on the computer. Laura Hammond is with the City of Eugene.

Hammond: "Generally, we have over 17-hundred plans submitted each year to the Building Permit Services Department and we anticipate each one of those weighs around 5 pounds each. So, we're thinking it's over 10-thousand pounds of paper that are going to be saved by this system."

Hammond says the process should be more convenient for applicants. She says there are a handful of other cities that allow people to apply for building permits on-line. Those who prefer to apply for building permits in person can still do so.
