Senator Wyden Spends Weekend Hosting Town Halls

Hank Stern

Oregon Democratic Senator Ron Wyden held several events around the state this weekend.

Wyden spoke with non-profit organizations at Relief Nursery in Springfield on Saturday. The senator says he’s especially concerned about what could happen to seniors and kids with special needs under the American Health Care Act, which is currently headed to the U.S. Senate.

Wyden: “You all are doing such wonderful preventive work. We can spend a bit of money on a really smart effort like Relief Nurseries and all your great programs. Or, we can just say, ‘don’t care about those kids, we don’t care about those people,’ and we’ll just pick up the bill later on when they need much more expensive care.”

Relief Nursery client Adriana Morales says her family is struggling because her husband is an illegal immigrant and she can’t work because they can’t afford childcare.

Adriana: “Relief Nursery has helped with my electricity bill this past winter. I’ve had help with counseling services for my children, who have behavioral needs. My youngest, who’s just been having some medical issues, was in the hospital.”

Following the round table discussion at Relief Nursery, Wyden spoke at Cottage Grove High School and at Liberty High School in Hillsboro.
