DeFazio: Senate Impeachment Trial Becoming 'Cover Up'

U.S. Dept of State

With the Senate impeachment trial winding down, Representative Peter DeFazio says the process appears orchestrated to favor President Trump.

The Oregon Democrat says the whole experience has been “through the Looking Glass weird” in terms of the process conducted through the Republican-led Senate.

Also causing ripples is Trump’s former security advisor, John Bolton.  Portions of his unpublished book reportedly contradict claims made by the president’s defense team on military aid to Ukraine.

The second and final day of questioning precedes a critical vote that would allow witnesses to testify.

DeFazio – and fellow Democrats – are pushing for that.

”Unfortunately it appears like the Senate is swinging back toward not calling witnesses," DeFazio tells KLCC. "And the Trump Administration is talking about embargoing Bolton’s book until after the presidential election. So we’re in the midst of an unbelievably massive cover-up here.”

Trump’s defense lawyers say the impeachment process is really about Democrats wanting to disrupt the 2020 election.
