Citing Low COVID-19 Cases, Douglas County Moves To Reopen

Douglas County has submitted its application to reopen to Oregon Governor Kate Brown.

Commissioners have been making the case to reopen for a while. They point to the lack of new positive COVID-19 cases in roughly three weeks, with just one hospitalization and no deaths.  Commissioners say they’ll observe pandemic protocols in their countywide operations and emphasize same with local businesses.

Last week, the Douglas County Courthouse opened, as well as parks and RV parks.  Health screenings and a drive-through testing clinic remain active.

In a statement, commissioners says they’ve done their due diligence, met the criteria outlined under county and state health guidelines, and are “ready”.

If approved by the Oregon Governor’s Office, Douglas County could enter Phase One reopening by May 15th.
