Community Alliance of Lane County Celebrated Biden's Win At Federal Courthouse In Eugene

Aubrey Bulkeley

After the Presidential election was officially called for Joe Biden, the Community Alliance of Lane County held a celebration at the Federal Courthouse in Eugene.

About 30 people gathered to hold signs and cheer at cars. Part of the group shared choreographed dances while music played, including Dancing in the Street by Martha and the Vandellas.

Chuck Arford shared why he chose to participate while holding a giant ‘Rally for Democracy’ banner.

“Because I’ve been here for the last four years on this corner protesting. Today, I get to celebrate. It’s about time," he said. "You know, you can’t see, but behind us are the dark clouds, now the sunlight is coming.”

It had been raining about an hour with the sun breaking through the clouds just as the group gathered. The mood was jubilant and most cars honked or cheered back in response.

While Biden supporters celebrated in Eugene, Trump supporters rallied to protest the outcome in Salem, with members of the Proud Boys carrying weapons.
