US Senator Ron Wyden On Trump’s “American Carnage”

Rachael McDonald

Oregon U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden says President Trump has created his own American carnage and the invasion of the Capitol by Trump supporters was domestic terrorism. He spoke with reporters Saturday at a virtual press conference.

Wyden says Trump should be removed from office as soon as possible. And he says there should be consequences for those in Congress who support Trump’s falsehoods.

“They tried to create the impression the Senate had the power to overthrow the election. That was false and yet they said it again and again. So, millions came to believe it.”

Wyden compared that to millions who’ve come to believe the holocaust didn’t happen. Wyden says his parents fled the Nazis in the 1930s, and his dad fought in World War II. On Wednesday, as Trump supporters, some in white supremacist garb, stormed the capitol, he says he thought of his dad and wondered how could this happen here?

With Democrats taking the majority in the Senate, Wyden is incoming chair of the Senate Finance Committee.
