The City of Eugene’s latest budget includes more than $280,000 to boost a mobile crisis intervention program that serves the area.
CAHOOTS Operations Coordinator Tim Black mentioned the possibility last month, in an interview with KLCC.
“We are planning to add 11 more service hours this summer, we’re very lucky to be working with the City of Eugene on implementing this," says Black.
"And the goal is that by mid-summer, we’ll have two vans available in Eugene, 18 hours a day. With one van on just in the middle of the night for those six hours when call volume up typically drops a little bit.”
CAHOOTS has gained national attention since being featured in a Wall Street Journal article last fall. 2018 also saw CAHOOTS increase services to area schools.
City Manager Jon Ruiz will present his budget plan to a committee on April 24th. A finalized budget – with possible changes – would go into effect July 1st.
