Deadwood Residents Rally For Post Office

About two dozen Deadwood area residents rallied in support of their post office Saturday as part of a national day of similar events.

Marina Saltman is a retired scientist who uses the post office regularly in this rural community in western Lane County.

“It is dubious to try and do anything with the postal service but to support it.” Saltman said to KLCC.  “So that during this COVID crisis we have an opportunity to vote and vote by mail. And many people cannot get out and mail is the only way. And it has been proven through many states that it works very well. And for the past 17 years I’ve been mailing in my ballots right here at my little post office.”

Saltman noted many in the area are older and low-income. They cannot afford to travel for mail service, which can include medication, paychecks, and correspondence. Saltman said the Deadwood Post Office is also a social place to greet neighbors.
