There’s a lot to learn about back to school as Eugene 4-J brings some students back into classrooms this spring.
The week of March 15th, Eugene 4J kindergarten and first grade hybrid learning students will have orientation. Chief of Staff Kerry Delf said classwork will start after spring break. Students will be in smaller groups on campus two days a week, and online the rest. ”Just like right now students are all learning at home," she said, "and that’s a combination of live, real-time interaction and asynchronous activities, so will be their offsite days. But it will be less live teacher time than it is now.”
Delf said subjects like music or PE might be real-time.
When they go back to buildings, middle and high schools students will switch classrooms more often than elementary grades. Delf told KLCC, “The total number of students and staff that a student can interact with in those cohorts, for all of their classes, is limited by state requirements to 100 or less over the course of a week.” She said most older students should be well under that.
Delf said with masks, reduced capacity and social distancing, school will look and feel different, but teachers and staff are excited to see students again.
She emphasized students need to stay home if they have any symptoms of illness, and said if there’s a positive coronavirus case, parents will be notified, and the school will work with Lane County Public Health on next steps.
