Free COVID-19 Tests For Eugene/Springfield Frontline Workers

Tiffany Eckert

7/21/2020 Update: A second Eugene / Springfield frontline worker testing event will be held July 29 at the Lane Events Center Parking Lot, from 1-5 p.m.

This Wednesday- (07/15/2020) Lane County Public Health will conduct a COVID-19 testing event for frontline workers. These are individuals who have continued to work-- in public-facing positions-- throughout the outbreak.  They could be gas station attendants, bus drivers, grocery store workers or food and beverage servers.

Lane County Health and Human Services' Jason Davis said this focused testing is designed to get a better idea of how the virus is moving through populations. He emphasizes the event is limited to frontline workers who do not already have access to regular testing as part of employment.

“Knowing that we have a testing shortage, or a testing materials shortage,” he said, “this is our way of being able to get rich data from very little resources available.”

Davis maintains the county has the capacity for 500 free oral/nasal swab tests. Results could take up to 48 hours and only positive cases are notified. Testing is Wednesday from 1 to 5 pm at the Lane Events Center parking lot (796 West 13th Avenue) in Eugene.
