The Holiday Farm fire was 156,708 acres in size as of Friday. It’s still 0% contained. There is a virtual community meeting tonight (Saturday) at 7 on the Holiday Farm Fire Facebookpage.

Fire crews have been working to protect structures and establish control lines on the blaze burning in the McKenzie River valley east of Springfield.

Doug Grafe is Chief of Fire Protection with the Oregon Department of Forestry. He said crews have been working hard to minimize the fire’s spread

“A heavy effort of local forest landowners’ equipment, absolutely instrumental in that firefight and making tremendous progress there.”

There are more than 17,732 structures threatened by the fire. 425 personnel are assigned to the Holiday Farm Fire. Crews were watching for potentially active fire behavior due to a lifting inversion. Firefighter safety is a high priority and officials urge the public to continue avoiding the area.

There has been one death reported in the Holiday Farm Fire. Friday, fire personnel found a deceased person in a residence near Goodpasture Road in Vida. First responders are working with the Medical Examiner’s Office to identify the deceased, but that may take some time. The name will not be released until next of kin are notified.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death along with the Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office, who will determine cause and manner of death.
