Lane County Administrator: "We Should Expect Loss Of Life"

Hundreds of residents have been evacuated due to the Holiday Farm Fire burning east of Springfield in the McKenzie River watershed.

Lane County Administrator Steve Mokrohisky told the Board of Commissioners at an emergency meeting Tuesday morning the town of Blue River has sustained catastrophic damage.

“According to one fire responder, it appears that at least 80 to 100 houses in Blue River were lost.” Mokrohisky said.  “We expect that other homes and businesses within the fire area have burned. And we should expect loss of life from this fire.”

It is zero percent contained. A red flag warnings remains in effect through Thursday. Winds are blowing smoke and ash from the fire into surrounding communities.
