Oregon Representative Says More Articles Of Impeachment Could Be Coming

Rachael McDonald

Oregon 4th District Representative Peter DeFazio joined his Democratic colleagues in the House this week in voting in favor of the impeachment of President Donald Trump. He says his investigation into the Trump Hotel may lead to more articles of impeachment.

DeFazio has been investigating the Trump Hotel since he became the chair of the house Transportation & Infrastructure Committee last year. The hotel, a former post office in Washington, D.C., is owned by the government and leased by Donald Trump. Last year, the hotel made 41 million dollars, prompting government watchdogs to accuse the president from illegally profiting from the facility.  DeFazio says this could violate the emoluments clause of the constitution.

“We very well could find impeachable offences is any of our ongoing litigation or our ongoing investigations and nothing would restrain us or constrain us from passing additional articles of impeachment with that proof.”

DeFazio is seeking Trump’s tax returns and access to other documents as part of the investigation. So far, the White House has refused to cooperate.
