A Close the Camps rally was held in downtown Eugene on Tuesday as part of a national protest of the U.S. policy of detaining migrant children.
A crowd of people of all ages gathered at the intersection of 7th and Pearl, many holding posters and signs denouncing the detention centers.
Jerri Linn, one of the local organizers, says they are responding to the recent reports about inhumane conditions at detention centers along the Texas border and are trying to spread the word.
“People need to care. No one is illegal and we’re all human beings,” says Linn. “We need to look for better solutions than what is happening now.”

US representative, Peter DeFazio, also made an appearance and asked people to donate to Kids in Need of Defense to provide attorneys for the children at these centers.
