Oregon State Parks Will Raise Fees For Out-of-State RVers

Oregon Parks & Recreation

A rule-making group is devising a way to enact a new requirement that out-of-state visitors pay an additional fee to rent RV sites in Oregon’s State Parks.

The 25% surcharge for RV sites will be assessed starting next year.

Chris Havel with Oregon State Parks said the fees will bring in an estimated $1.8 million dollars.

“But that money is used to operate day-to-day and also to keep the park system repaired," Havel said.  "We’re coming up on 100 years old next year. 2022 is our centennial. And, as you can imagine, there are a lot of things that wear out. Not just in the campgrounds but across the entire state parks.”

State parks are funded in part by lottery dollars. The rest of their budget comes from camping and parking fees.

Competition for RV sites and campsites overall has gone up dramatically in Oregon over the past decade, especially at the coast.
