The Third Annual Women’s March is set for this Saturday in Eugene. The route will be identical to years’ past, but there will be a few changes in the focus of the event.
Monica Olson is chapter president of the National Organization for Women (NOW.) She says a highlight of the march will be the women’s political wave.
“We’ll be celebrating all of the women who have been elected into office this year. Go Blue Wave,” Olson proclaims.
The lack of diversity among participants of past Women’s Marches has caused some cities to cancel the event. Olson says there has been a lot of outreach in the Eugene/Springfield area to women of color and trans women.
“We want to showcase marginalized women and the struggles that they’re in and in our political climate at the moment,” Olson says. “Also we want to just bring celebration for all types of women all over the spectrum and non-binary fem as well.”
Women’s March festivities will start at the Wayne Morse Federal Courthouse around 10 am. The Soromundi Lesbian Choir will kick off the event.
Olson says they are "trying to get away from the color pink" and encourages marchers to wear purple instead.
The Central Oregon Women’s March will begin Saturday at noon at Drake Park in Bend.

In Corvallis, the Women’s March and Rally starts at Central City Park at noon.

In Newport, the Lincoln County Women's March gathers at Newport City Hall at 12:30 pm.
