Under a bill approved by Oregon lawmakers this month, schools would have to make sure their AED is in working order and easily accessible. Coaches would also be required to be trained on how to use them.

A new, public health-based emergency response program in Lane County is training volunteers from historically under-served populations to be ready to help in a crisis and even to save a life.
